Liuguanghe Bridge Xiqian
Liutongxiang, Guizhou, China
1,230 feet high / 375 meters high
1,903 foot span / 580 meter span
2017
The second highest and longest span bridge ever built over the great Wujiang River, the Liuguanghe Bridge is also one of the tallest with the west pier stretching 248 meters into the sky.
The S30 Xiqian expressway bypasses the older 2-lane Guibi Road that opened in 2001 and connected Qianxi with the G75 expressway. The newer route also allowed a more direct connection with the cities of Xifeng and Kaifeng.
The giant main span of 580 meters is most notable for the short back spans that required the higher cable stays to be bundled more closely together. Like many giant spans that cross the Wu River, Liuguanghe Bridge crosses a reservoir from a downstream dam that can vary the height from 328 meters when the lake is full to as high as 375 meters if measured down to the original level of the Wujiang River. The truss sections are 12 meters long.
