Although most of the high beam bridges on the Renchi Expressway and elsewhere in China have long spans constructed by the balanced cantilevered method, more conventional viaducts with simple drop-in spans often exceed 90 meters in height if the piers do not have to be too tall. Xinglongwan is a good example of this type of bridge with 5 spans of 40 meters.
Just a kilometer to north of the Xinglongwan Bridge is the Lizibang #1 arch bridge with a height of only 55 meters. Why this was not another conventional viaduct with 40 meter spans is unknown but the slope may have been found to be unstable.
