Maotai Bridge is the third of four high Yanjinhe River crossings and was built as part of a 4-lane highway that connects Renhuai City with the G56 expressway to the south. The prestressed concrete beam bridge is the 2nd highest of 4 bridges that cross the Yanjinhe in close proximity. The first was a concrete truss-arch that opened in 1995. Similar in design to the larger and more famous Jiangjiehe arch bridge, the Yanjinhe arch span was damaged a few years after it opened and had to be closed to automobile and foot traffic. A second, replacement bridge came in 2007 when a 623 foot (200 mtr) span prestressed concrete beam bridge was built a half mile (one kilometer) upstream from the older arch bridge which is now only open to pedestrians. Then in 2015 the Xiaohekou bridge on the new MaoTan expressway opened as the highest Yanjinhe Bridge of all at 220 meters.
