The longest span towerless suspension bridge crossing in the world, the Litanghe Bridge is one of 3 major suspension bridges along the amazing G7611 Xichang to Shangri Expressway. The main span of 696 meters rests between two tunnels with the deck being supported only by the two main cables that are anchored directly into tunnels bored into the mountain cliffs nearly 300 meters above the Litang River. The 506 meter long deck will be 120 meters above the reservoir surface which is at least 80 meters deep.
A temporary ropeway with a distance of 665 meters was built to facilitate easy access of men and materials across the canyon.
Just 20 kilometers to the south of Litanghe Bridge is the gargantuan 1,680 meter main span of the Lugu Lake Bridge, the longest span high level bridge in the world with a deck almost 500 meters high.
The G7611 expressway eventually goes to the popular Lugu Lake tourist area with a future extension that will eventually go all the way to Shangri-La.
Another render that is admittedly a low resolution blur.
