Xiqiang Jiuhuang Mountain Glass Footbridge
西羌九皇山吊桥
Jiangyou, Sichuan, China
(197) feet high / (60) meters high
(820) foot span / (250) meter span
2019
The newer Xiqiang Jiuhuang Mountain Glass Footbridge was opened in 2019 approximately 50 meters up the side of the cliff from the original Xiqiang Jiuhuang Mountain Footbridge completed in 2004.
Both Xiqiang Jiuhuang Mountain Footbridges are two beautiful suspension spans strung between two cliffs that are located high up on the slope of a scenic mountain and cave area in Sichuan Province.
The Jiuhuang Mountain spot covers an area of more then 30 square kilometers loaded with cliffwalks, caves, forests and cultural sights.
The 2004 footbridge is unique for having a single main cable with cantilevered stringer cables that support what is probably the narrowest deck of any major tourist footbridge in China at only 1 meter.
The Wenchuan 2008 earthquake dislodged large boulders that partially destroyed the south end of the original footbridge before it was rebuilt in 2010.
A view of the older bridge towers.
The south end of the bridge was partially destroyed in the Wenchuan earthquake of 2008.
