The Big Dipper Jantzen Beach is one of coaster designer Carl E. Phare's three famous Northwest twisters that included the Coaster at Playland Vancouver and the Dipper at Bitter Lake Playland. Phare was one of the few coaster designers of his time who incorporated large fan curves into his rides making for more exciting turnarounds filled with lateral G forces.

Like on the Coaster at Playland, the Big Dipper started with a pre-lift turn that descended into a shallow, below grade concrete trough.  There was at least one other drop that descended below the grade of the parking lot that surrounded the ride.
