The New Park (10 Mile) bridge is the largest component of a complete realignment and upgrading of the Trans Canadian Highway Route 1 through Kicking Horse Canyon in British Columbia. Steep gradients and tight turns were a constant problem along the original 2-lane highway in the vicinity of the original Park bridge deck truss. By creating a 4-lane divided highway and raising the elevation of the crossing, accidents and travel times were reduced. The nearby Yoho (5 mile) bridge was also completely rebuilt due to a dangerous “S” configuration on the alignment of the outdated 1959 structure.
At 295 feet (90 mtrs), Park Bridge’s pier number 4 is the tallest ever built in Canada. The right of way of the famous Canadian Pacific Railway runs along the Kicking Horse river 289 feet (88 mtrs) beneath the bridge. The Park bridge is located 8 miles (13 kms) east of Golden, British Columbia.
