Progreso Bridge
Puente Progreso
San Sebastián del Oeste, Jalisco, Mexico
390 feet high / 119 meters high
472 foot span / 144 meter span
2007
Lost in the mountains of Mexico’s Jalisco state, the Puente Progreso is one of the most beautiful concrete arch bridges in North America. The concrete arch was designed by Mexpresa, one of Mexico City’s premier engineering firms. The bridge has great details including inclined spandrels that accentuate the curve of the arch as well as a concrete flange on the side of the arch that wraps over and around the base of the arch. Another engineering report has the bridge as high as 433 feet (132 mtrs).
To construct the span, a temporary steel arch support was designed by Coconal and erected first with highlines and then the concrete arch was poured on forms placed on top of the steel arch. Once the concrete arch was completed, the steel arch sections were removed.
