Shennongxi Bridge
神农溪大桥
Yanduhezhen, Hubei, China
738 feet high / 225 meters high
1,050 foot span / 320 meter span
2013

Shennongxi Bridge is the highest and arguably most spectacular of many high bridges along the new G42 expressway that traverses along the north side of the famous 3 Gorges region of the Yangtze River between the cities of Yichang and Wanzhou. Other spectacular spans along the route include the Daninghe River arch bridge, the Pengxihe and Meixihe cable stayed bridges and the Tangxihe beam bridge.

Shennongxi Bridge does not have a particularly large span of 320 meters but the two main towers of Shennongxi are impressive standing 191 meters from base to top. The configuration also includes a 150 meter long prestressed beam span. The approach spans are all 30 meters. The total length of the bridge is 1,150 meters.

The height of the bridge deck is approximately 225 meters as measured to the old level of the Shennongxi River surface but the deep 3 Gorges reservoir created by the massive dam near Yichang leaves the deck only 171 meters above the full pool water elevation of 175 meters above sea level.
