Another one of Italy's giant viaducts, the Stura di Demonte Bridge was a major project of the Turin-Savona Autostrada A6 / E717 completed in sections between 1960 and 1972. Work eventually began in 1976 to double the route into a safer 4-lane divided roadway with the upgrade finally completed in 2001.
The original 2.75 kilometer 2-lane Stura di Demonte Bridge consisted of dozens of 45 meter concrete beam spans while the parallel viaduct consists of thirty-one 90 meter long steel box beam spans.
