Xiangxihe is one of two large bridges that are part of a connector expressway to link up citizens of Zigui County on the south side of the Yangtze River with route S255 on the north side. At the southern end of the 5.5 kilometer route is the Xiangxi Yangtze River Bridge composed of one of the world's 10 longest arch spans at 498 meters.

Though not as visible as the arch, the preliminary Xiangxihe cable stayed bridge design shows a white diamond shaped tower similar to the Badong Yangtze River Bridge located about 50 kilometers to the west.
