Xinmatou Bridge is located within a remote region of Hubei Province where a major dam has impounded water up several tributaries of the Baihe River. The extremely tight canyon has nearly vertical cliffs on both sides that required piers as tall as 135 meters despite a main span configuration of only 57+100+57 meters.
