A typical trestle bridge, the 911 foot (278 mtr) long viaduct has 4 intermediate spans of 100 feet (30 mtrs) and two large tower spans of 81 feet (25 mtrs). Engineered by New Zealander John Cull, the bridge was completed in 1937 along the line between Gisborne and Napier. Large windbreaks line both sides of the bridge.
