Reported to be 216 meters high from deck to original river level, the Liutonghe Bridge is one of several high beam bridges that were completed to raise the level of local road S307 to the upper slopes of the Jinshajiang (Yangtze) river to avoid being submerged under the lake formed from the completion of the Xiluodu Dam.  With a height of 285.5 meters, Xiluodu is the 3rd tallest concrete dam in the world and is located on the border of Sichuan and Yunnan Provinces.

Liutonghe Bridge is a large concrete filled steel tubular crossing on the amazing G4216 Yibin to Panzhihua Expressway in Sichuan Province. The route has Sichuan's largest collection of high level bridges. The lower two-thirds of the Liutonghe Bridge is hidden below a portion of the Jinshajiang reservoir that was formed by the giant Xiluodu Dam. The 489.5 meter long Liutonghe Bridge has a main span of 300 meters.

The route is also unique for having more large span arch bridges than any other highway on earth with a total of seven. These massive concrete and CFST arches include Xi'ninghe, Dahegou, Shangwujiao, Xisujiaohe, Yuewulada, Liutonghe and Daheba Bridges.

The G4216 Expressway parallels much of the Jinshajiang reservoir that was formed by the giant Xiluodu Dam. With a height of 285.5 meters, Xiluodu is among the 5 tallest concrete dams in the world and is located on the border of Sichuan and Yunnan Provinces 50 kilometers downstream from the Jinshajiang Bridge Kahaluo.
