Wujiang Bridge Yuqing
乌江特大桥
Goupitanzhen, Guizhou, China
853 feet high / 260 meters high
1,181 foot span / 360 meter span
2016
With only one third of its full height visible, the Wujiang Bridge crossing in Yuqing County might not appear very high but looks can be deceiving. Just 15 kilometers downstream of the bridge is the Goupitan Dam which created a massive reservoir nearly 200 meters deep. At the bridge site the water is likely more then 150 meters deep.
The cable stayed bridge has H-frame towers that support a span configuration of 125+360+125 meters. The relatively small back spans of 125 meters coupled with no approach spans hint at a tunnel to tunnel crossing between steep slopes in excess of 45 degrees.
The Goupitan Dam is one of the tallest in China with a total height of 232.5 meters from foundation bottom to crest. The dam became operational in 2009 and was completed in 2011.
