The Márcio Rocha Martins Bridge opened in 2010 as part of a bypass of an older section of road that crossed a smaller bridge called the Viaduto Almas from 1957. The new crossing has a length of 460 meters.

Brazil’s highest road bridge, the Mutuca Viaduct carries highway 40 into the city of Belo Horizonte further north.
