The Dipper Bitter Lake Playland is one of coaster designer Carl E. Phare's three famous Northwest twisters that included the Coaster at Playland Vancouver and the Big Dipper at Jantzen Beach. Phare was one of the few coaster designers of his time who incorporated large fan curves into his rides making for more exciting turnarounds filled with lateral G forces.

Unlike his other designs that used an oval layout with 180 degree turnarounds, the path for the Bitter Lake coaster was triangular requiring two large fan curves of 165 and 130 degrees.
